Hi, I’m John Wilson (He/Him)—a writer and mixed-media artist. Magical realist. Gay. A certified vacuum-ologist and dog butler. I’m honest, big-hearted, and open-minded. I was born in 1967 and raised in Southern California, surrounded by family, friends, music, and laughter. Throughout my life, I’ve explored creativity across the fine arts and in business and retail. I studied drama in college. In the late 80s and early 90s, I had music demo deals with CBS and Columbia Records, and in 2000 with MCA Records. From 2002 to 2011, I managed a Spanish handbag showroom at the California Gift Mart, helped with a family business that made handcrafted electric bass guitars, and owned and operated a home accessory and lifestyle store called the “Home Grown Store” in Mid-City Los Angeles. From 2011 to 2023, my husband and I took root on two acres of unruly forest land, perched above the French Broad River, in the culinary, hippie, crystalline vortex that is Asheville, North Carolina, where I dedicated myself to creating and selling mixed media and wearable art while minding our three dogs, two cats, and twenty-two chickens. In 2019, I rediscovered the joy of writing, returning to lyrics, then short stories, and beyond. It’s 2026, and for the past three years we’ve been in Palm Springs, California, where I’m grateful to still be leading a creative life, writing, making art, loving my husband, our dog, and our fierce chosen family.
