Hi, I’m John Wilson, and this is my somewhat reluctant biography. I identify as a magical realist, and I’m proudly queer and gay. I am fortunate to have the unconditional love of my husband, our three dogs, and a handful of lifelong friends. In terms of my creative pursuits, I am a writer, a mixed media artist, and a lyricist and singer. I have a penchant for being sassy and sarcastic, but above all, I value honesty and have a twisted sense of humor. I consider myself to be big-hearted and open-minded. I always prioritize following my dreams and embracing joy without delay. I hope to always be a work in progress, constantly evolving and growing.
I was born in 1967 and raised in southern California. The world of theater has been a part of my life since I can remember. I played soccer and trained in karate for a solid twenty years. I pursued my passion for drama by studying it in college and in the school of life. In the 90s, I had the opportunity to perform music in various Los Angeles clubs with my band, “Black House Blue Sky.” We received a demo deal with Columbia Records in the mid-90s. Later, in 2000, I secured another demo deal, this time with MCA Records. However, from 2002 to 2015, I took a break from writing and creating music. During that time, I explored my artistic abilities and sold my mixed media artwork. I also had the chance to manage a showroom at the California Gift Mart for a Spanish Handbag Company. I helped run a family business that specialized in handcrafting electric bass guitars. From 2006 to 2011, I owned and operated a lifestyle store in mid-city Los Angeles called the “Home Grown Store.”
For more than a decade, I resided in the picturesque mountains of western North Carolina, where I dedicated myself to creating and selling my mixed media and wearable art. However, in 2015, I felt a calling to explore a new form of expression and began writing short stories. In 2021, I embarked on a manuscript, which I am proud to say I have now completed.
Fast forward to 2024, and I find myself back in southern California, alongside my beloved husband and our three dogs. It is here in the high desert that I’ve begun working on my second manuscript. I am also actively engaged in making art. I am absolutely thrilled to be back home, surrounded by my favorite people and places on this beautiful planet.
